Hello again 💘 With this week being Valentine’s Day, I want to talk about the most important kind of love; self-love.
Self-love is a journey we all take. The person you are going to be spending the most time with is you – make it worthwhile. You need to take care of yourself & be mindful of your needs. Self-love does not mean that every day is going to be perfect, we all have our down days. Even if this period lasts a week or a month, know you haven’t failed. Being a human being can be quite the struggle from time to time. Most importantly, self-love isn’t selfish. Surround yourself with good people. If the people around you don’t support you, they aren’t worth your time.
For me, the key to self-love has been doing what I love. The number one thing in life that makes me happy & serves my purpose is creating. I’ve found multiple ways to express it. Self-love has been tough to upkeep since entering college, but especially in the last year with graduation approaching. I never enjoyed school, but I never found something I was passionate about that I could do right out of high school, plus I knew I needed some discipline. School makes me feel tied down & trapped. I’m lucky to enjoy what I’m doing & be in an accelerated program. I don’t think I would have ended up with a degree otherwise. The last year has made me feel like I could almost see the light at the end of the tunnel, but I couldn’t reach it. The only things keeping me from disappearing to Costa Rica has been yoga, meditation, good food, & sleep. If I don’t do yoga or meditate for a long period, I’m completely thrown off. My mind goes everywhere, my anxiety starts acting up, & my motivation to complete work vanishes entirely. With the stress of graduation, it can be hard to even keep up with those – but I try my best.
Self-love is something I’m a huge advocate for. So much, that I have been legitimately promoting it around my campus. In 2015, a friend became a campus rep for a company called So Worth Loving. So Worth Loving started as an inspirational blog that spray painted their message of love on t-shirts. It grew to a company with a store front & manifested a lifestyle of embracing your past & empowering your future. Once she graduated I was lucky enough to take the position from her.
No matter my history, past mistakes, relationship status, or career choice, I am worthy of love. I am not defined by my past. I am prepared because of it. While my own voice and others may tell me different, I will lean into the safe people that affirm this way of thinking. When I encourage others to love themselves I am encouraging them to treat themselves with kindness, patience, respect, and all that embodies love. We live our life knowing we have worth. So Worth Loving. It’s a lifestyle.
